Frequently we discuss the benefit of hyperbaric oxygen treatment in healing wounds. Studies show the anti-inflammatory effect that hyperbarics have, as well as the benefit of extra oxygen to your cells. And I forget sometimes about the “internal” wounds. A new study shows the benefit of hyperbaric oxygen on inflammatory bowel disease.

Inflammatory bowel disease incorporates Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. People with either disease have terrible digestive issues and can get sores on the inside of their intestinal tract which cause pain and diarrhea. Many times, the internal sores won’t heal because of the immune response and large amount of inflammation.

Luckily, we know that hyperbaric oxygen works on all of those levels: reducing inflammation, curbing the immune response and speeding the healing of the actual wound. If you are suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, please give our office a call and let us show you how hyperbarics can help.
