Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) renamed from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, is a painful, debilitating complication from an injury. It typically occurs in a limb, like an arm or a leg. And the pain is disproportionate the injury. I have seen patients who had such pain, that they could barely move their arm or have someone touch them.

Unfortunately, we don’t quite understand why some patients develop this, nor do we have good treatments outside of pharmaceutical pain management. And, this usually results in 6-18 months of disability, where many patients are unable to work, let alone do daily activities.

Luckily, we have some non-pharmaceutical options that have shown great promise: hyperbaric oxygen therapy. We know hyperbaric oxygen is anti-inflammatory and helps reduce swelling. We also know that it increases wound healing. One recent study showed improvement in just 3 weeks and the patient was able to return to work! It’s amazing that something as simple as hyperbaric oxygen can do such good work.

If you are suffering from CRPS, or chronic pain, give us a call and see how we can help you get past this.
